With hands in his pockets, Roe kept a steady pace walking through the hallways. It was evening now, the sun had just set behind him. He peeked through the windows of classes. Everyone was probably sleeping, or so it seemed. For a brief moment he thought about joining them, but the feeling of something stabbing him in the gut stopped him. He couldn’t deal with people right now. Actually, he never could, but defiantly not now.
The past 4 years his life changed him dramatically, but the past 2 months led him here. His mother died of emphazema just a month ago. Before that he watched her die on her death bed, or rather death couch in this case. He didn’t call 911 till her due date like she told him too. After that he was orphaned like he readied himself for this whole time. He had no idea who his father was, and his mother had no siblings and the grandparents were dead. So the billions and billions of government officials took it in their hands and sent him here. Now you see why he didn’t want anyone even looking at him. Why they sent him hear wasn’t because he murdered someone, or was involved in gang activity. He stole, and he lied. Plus, he didn’t even pass the 6th grade, and wasn’t going to start now.
Wither or not guards paroled the place, they weren’t going to stop him from going to the restroom. So he wondered the unfamiliar walls, passing classes till he finally found a bathroom. Inside, there was nothing out of the ordinary urinals and stalls, to one side sink and mirrors.
Under a bit of mischief he pushed himself on to a sink and lifted the ceiling panel up and over to revel a huge array of wires. He then fumbled in his pocket for the pocket knife he got from the last gas station on the way here. He chuckled and shook his head at how stupid some officials can be. He guessed being depressed and quiet always worked.
Slipping on thick leather gloves he started cutting away at the big black cord. Small vibrations continued to make his arm numb but the gloves protected him from most of the shock. As he began to cut into the little wires inside he would have to duck his head, to shield his eyes from the sparks. If teachers and students in other rooms began to lose power he didn’t know.
The cord was soon cut completely and all the power was gone. With what little strength he had left from the numbing electricity he gave a yank with both arms and landed on the floor. He shook his head from the suddenness letting his eyes adjust to the darkness. Quickly he felt for the sink and ran the water. Hopefully the cord had fallen in it like he planed when he came in. Quietly he walked out of the boys’ restroom and felt the walls.
He was so close to the dorms. There it was a door. He let his head fall on it listening. There was nothing, no movement, snoring, nothing. He checked the knob. It turned completely in his hand. As he looked up to see a number on the door. Welcome to room 018 Rowland
